Diabetes is a very well known and common disease throughout the world now-a-days. It is such a disease that weakens the ability to process glucose of blood, also known as blood sugar. Here I describe three main different types of diabetes and diabetes treatment and prevention.

Without stable and careful management, diabetes can lead to an upsurge of sugar in blood, which can increase severe complications, such as stroke and heart disease. Untreated diabetes also can damage eyes, nerves, kidneys and other organs.

In Bangladesh, overall age-standardized occurrence of diabetes was 9.2%. About diabetes, 41.2% were aware of their condition, 36.9% were treated and 14.2% were concerned to control their condition. A significant variation in diabetes management was found from poor to wealthy households. Multilevel models suggested that participants who had a lower education and lower economic condition were less likely to be aware of their diabetes. Poor management was observed among non-educated, low-income people and those who lived in the northwestern region.

There are different kinds of diabetes that occur in human body. It depends on the form of diabetes to control the rate of blood glucose. Not all types of diabetes are happened because of being overweight or unhealthy lifestyle; it can be existed from one’s childhood.

Diabetes is actually comes up when the hormone insulin moves sugar from blood to cells that is used for energy in human body. It begins when one’s body cannot make enough insulin or cannot use the insulin it makes.

There can be seen different types of diabetes; type-1, type-2, gestational diabetes and pre-diabetes are very common. Let’s know about these types –

Type-1 diabetes:

Type-1 diabetes is an autoimmune diabetes, also known as juvenile diabetes. This type occurs when the body is unable to produce insulin. The immune system destroys the cells in pancreas where insulin is made of. Cause of the attack is not that much clear till now. The people with type-1 diabetes depend on artificial insulin daily to be alive.

Type 2 diabetes:

This type occurs when human body becomes resistant to insulin. Means, type-2 diabetes affects the body though insulin is made properly but it does not respond effectively. It is the most common type of diabetes according to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.

Gestational diabetes:

It is such type of this disease that happens during pregnancy time. Insulin does less effort in a pregnant woman. Not all the pregnant women have diabetes and its resolves after giving birth. Sometimes it can cause the risk of both mother and child, because this increased the danger of having type-2 diabetes later for both.

Pre-diabetes:

Pre-diabetes is a state of human body when blood sugar is higher than the normal range and remains in borderline of diabetes’s. People of this type have the possibilities to develop type-2 in their body, but they do not face all the symptoms of diabetes.

Type-2 diabetes and pre-diabetes have similar symptoms, such as, having pre-diabetes, being overweight, unhealthy lifestyle, age above 45, family history, having high cholesterol and high blood pressure etc.

All diabetes type has different symptoms, causes and treatments. All have to justify the state of their blood sugar before taking any precaution. Whenever someone faces the primary symptom of diabetes, should go to the doctor as soon as possible, as it effects badly if the action is not taken timely.

Symptoms of diabetes are so mild that it can be hard enough to mark it first. But there are some common symptoms in both type-1, type -2 and pre-diabetes that one can easily think about the disease; as-

  • Extreme hunger
  • Excessive urination
  • Tiredness
  • Blur in vision
  • Feeling thirsty frequently
  • Sores that are not easy to cure

Gestational diabetes patients do no experience the symptom of these types. Their blood sugar appearances when they go for a routine checkup of their pregnancy.

Diabetes is such a disease that can drive one to the death, if it is not given importance or uncontrolled. So it cannot be taken so lightly. Instead of fright, one can lead his/her life sound by maintaining some good habits or changing their lifestyle. People need to follow some steps to embrace a lifestyle with diabetes include;

  • Making a healthy diet chart with nutritious foods, lots of fresh vegetables, lean protein, low fat dairy, healthy fat sources as nut, whole grain etc.
  • Doing exercise at least thirty minutes daily. Though walking is the best of all exercises, but others would be preferable if one have the ability to do it daily.
  • Avoiding sweetened soft drinks, any kind of sweets, alcohol, fried foods, high calorie foods etc
  • Understanding the situation of increasing or decreasing the glucose level, while maintaining diet or exercise including dizziness, excessive sweating, feeling weakens and so on.
  • Having an ideal weight and maintaining it.

People with type-1 and type-2 may need to inject or inhale insulin so that they can maintain their sugar level from getting too high. In today’s world, it becomes so easy to check the blood sugar by using finger stick. The process of checking blood sugar involves with a portable machine that is called glucometer. By using it, they can know the level of their blood sugar and the dose of insulin.

Diabetes is a disease that can be controlled by self-awareness. It cannot be cured fully, but maintained perfectly. So we have to be more careful about taking healthy foods and should focus on a healthy active lifestyle.
